Peak Support Q&A: Kent Pilapil
Meet Kendra, a gregarious, funny, and friendly member of our training team. When she first started working remotely, Kendra feared that she wouldn’t get the support she needed. But to her surprise, she felt and continues to feel the presence and support of every one at Peak Support. Kendra’s favorite color is blue because it reminds her of Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach’s iconic winning gown. The beauty queen’s inspiring journey has motivated Kendra to continue to dream. Did you know that Kendra is a BTS fan? She dreams of one day meeting Kim Seok-jin. If there’s one thing Kendra wishes the world had more of, it would be compassion. Kendra finds it ironic though how she’s always wanted to become Ariel from The Little Mermaid when she has thalassophobia and is too scared to explore what’s under the sea. Read on to get to know Kendra better.
If you could have a city all to yourself for 24 hours, what city would it be?
Seoul. I want to experience the culture, try the food, and see popular K-drama filming locations. But more than anything, I’d really love to hopefully meet all the BTS members and visit their go-to places.
What is your most loveable trait?
I think being approachable is my most loveable trait. I know what it’s like to feel scared to ask for help, so I don’t want others to feel the same. I want other people to feel welcome and I want to build great relationships with everyone.
Who would you treat to a generous shopping spree?
My mom. I never got the chance to give back to my father because he left the world when I was 17 and still in school. Now that I’m earning, I want to take every opportunity there is to show my mom how thankful I am for all the sacrifices she’s made for me and my siblings. I want her to experience the best that life has to offer.
When was the last time you apologized to someone?
I recently apologized to myself again for slacking off. It’s always been my dream to lose weight but find it hard to stick to my goal. I’ve failed several times, but I’m still working on it.
What does someone have to do to make you feel special?
I feel special whenever someone remembers me. I know how busy everyone is with their lives but if they make an effort to message me and check on how I’m doing, I appreciate that. The idea that there’s someone who remembers me brings warmth to my heart.
When was the last time you visited a hospital?
April 2023. I remember experiencing heartburn then, so I Googled it. While scrolling through, I saw an article saying that heartburn could be a symptom of a heart attack. I panicked and got worried because I was heavy, and people at home might have difficulty carrying me if something went wrong. I rushed to the nearest ER to have myself checked and luckily, the result was negative.
What would your spy name be?
The Phoenix, because it is a symbol of life, hope, and new beginnings.
Is there a song that always makes you cry or teary-eyed?
Isa Pang Araw (English translation: One More Day) by Sarah Geronimo. I can’t count the times where I’ve asked for more time with the people that I love and lost. It’s sad that no matter how hard we ask, time has no rewinds. That’s why we should seize every opportunity to show people how much they mean to us.
Would you rather wear tacky clothes or messy make up in public?
Tacky clothes. The face is the first thing people usually notice. So if I wear messy makeup, they will see it immediately. People have different styles anyway, so they probably won’t say much about my outfit.
What life lesson did you learn the hard way?
I doubted myself several times in the past. I used to tell myself that I didn’t deserve anything nice. It wasn’t really healthy and I’m glad that I got over it. I am really lucky to have great friends and colleagues who make me feel that I deserve to exist in the world.
Where would you go to hide during a zombie apocalypse?
I think I’d be safe on an island because I haven’t seen or heard of any zombies that can swim. I won’t have any problems with food too since I’ll probably be able to get fresh fruit and fish.
What’s the sweetest thing you’ve ever eaten?
Cake is the sweetest dessert I’ve tried. Not just because of the sugar but because it symbolizes celebration and success. I once ate a whole Red Ribbon Rainbow Cake in one sitting.
Have you ever woken up from a bad dream?
I remember waking up from sleep paralysis. When I had my first few episodes, I used to panic because I felt so helpless. No matter what I did, I couldn’t shout or move my body. It was a terrifying experience. But now, whenever I have an episode, I just stay calm, pray and wait for it to end.
What fruit can you not tolerate the taste of?
Honestly, I can’t think of any because I’m not really a fan of fruits. But when I do eat fruits, I can eat anything. I can even tolerate Durian.
What do you think is the most powerful thing in the world?
As cheesy as it sounds, but I genuinely believe in the power of love. When you love someone, it changes you. It makes you prioritize others more than yourself. And it also gives you the ability to understand, endure, and make sacrifices.
